          her expression didn’t fall away from the look of sheer TERROR that has been on her face since breaking the news to steve, her arms crossed across her chest, each hand on the upper of the opposite arm, hugging herself gently. and even despite the fact he seemed to be full of joy at the prospect of a child , ( OF A FAMILY ) , she still wasn’t quite so sure. the brunette lifts a shaking hand, pressing her right index finger to her lips in an attempt to shush him in the most polite way possible. “ we don’t KNOW that yet. ” she manages.

          if there was anything that made the younger stark more TERRIFIED, it was the very idea of carrying a child. ( or rather, the idea of LOSING it. ) and so, she hasn’t told anyone, not even tony. the only people who know is herself and steve, since he had the right to know. 

          “ with mama’s history… and then— with MY history… ” chocolate hues are cast toward the floor again, to hide the tears that are threatening to spill over. “ not yet… we have to wait. ” she insisted. she didn’t want to get her hopes up, only to be let down AGAIN. it was better not to think about it, than it was to get attached to something else she was might very well lose. ( and god knows that she has dealt with enough of THAT. )

    ❛  i know. tony told me. & hey– 12 angry men is great, & IT’S in black & white.  ❜    there were other movies too, better than what this era could offer. steve just saw too many similarities between them all, now. 50 shades of gray was no exception, either.  ❛  i didn’t like it. too predictable, &– she basically said no. he ignored that & continued to peruse.  ❜  so with that logic, it was easy to assume steve wasn’t a fan. 

    what he did like though, was movies like this. he hadn’t really expected the story to turn out this way, but it did, & he’s a fan. steve puts the movie in, & then makes his way back to the couch, reclaiming his seat beside tanya. the familiar start up tune begins to play, & the start credits begin to roll. here he is, spending the night with tanya stark, watching netflix and sitting on the couch. it was.. nice.

        “ 12 angry men ?? that’s the one about the jury and the teenager accused of stabbing his dad, right ?? ” it was familiar, and she has watched the movie before, a few times. but— “ i didn’t like it. ” she adds, shrugging. that was a lie, of course. tanya is simply being stubborn in an attempt to prove a point to him. however, it WAS one of the few black and white movies she could TOLERATE, with most of the other black and white movies she liked happening to be horror movies. she really did much prefer color, though. and she especially enjoyed animated pieces. there was something about them that took her back to her childhood. her younger days were a much better time for her, obviously.

         she gets settled in, moving back in her seat in an attempt to get more comfortable, looking toward steve as he speaks. tanya shrugs. “ not really. ” she says, shaking her head, “ if i change my mind, i can always get it myself. ”

   ❛  not any that YOU’RE thinking of.  ❜ rolling his eyes, steve fights the blush that threatens to stain his pale cheeks.  no, he isn’t a prude, but he also isn’t really comfortable about talking about things like this. besides– adult films weren’t exactly his area of expertise. steve stands, heading over towards the stack of movies. while he could just ask jarvis to play something random, he prefers the old fashioned way. 

   after glancing through the stack, he notices one movie standing out from the rest.  ❛  it won’t be a party without the princess & the frog, you know.  ❜ he might be teasing or he might be dead serious. he’s always found the art in animated films to be something to marvel at. he, himself, always took the more realistic way of drawing, but he’d appreciate things when he saw them.

   besides, after tanya’s little outburst, they might need something a little more innocent, or who knows where the night will lead to. why hadn’t he went to stay at sam’s instead?

          “ &&   what   kind   of   movie   do   you   THINK   i’m   thinking   of ??   i   just   want   to   be   sure   you’re   not   going   to   force   me   to   watch   something   black   &&   white . ”   of   course ,   that   was   a   lie .   or   rather ,   not   so   much   a   lie   as   it   is   a   slight   stretching   of   the   truth .   it   was   actually   both   what   HE   was   thinking   &&   what   she   had   said .   a   double   standard   question .   “ but ,   you   know .   fifty   shades   of   gray   is   still   a   great   movie … ”   she   adds ,   a   shit   eating   grin   plastered   across   her   face .

          she   rolls   her   eyes ,   watching   steve   move   from   his   spot   to   hunt   through   the   piles   of   movies   that   the   starks   have   on   hand .   she’s   almost   tempted   to   remind   him   that   jarvis   has   practically   any   movie   he   might   think   of ,   but   she’s   aware   that   he   already   KNOWS   that   &&   is   electing   to   ignore   it .   (  not   that   she   would   complain   much   with   is   old   fashioned   ways .   after   all ,   she   has   a   great   view   of   his   ass   from   this   angle .  )

          “ i   love   that   movie . ”   she   points   out ,   “ it’s   one   of   my   favorites . ”   &&   at   least   that   much   was   true .   the   princess   &&   the   frog   was   one   of   few   disney   movies   that   she   appreciates   little   girls   watching .   adults   too .   tiana   was   a   perfect   role   model   to   everyone .

        with his serious demeanor resurfacing, steve frowns. he really has high hopes that tanya is joking around about this. she has to be, right? there isn’t any way steve is letting his face get make up on it. not with camera phones still being a thing. & not with how he knows tanya would take advantage of that.    ❛  i’m not feelin’ real burlesque right now, tany. maybe some other time?  ❜  

   there would be no other time, that’s for damn sure. sitting down once more, steve leans against the bottom of the couch, legs all stretched out. moments like this, he’s glad he’s not sitting on wood floor. he figures they’re going to be here a while.    ❛  but i won’t object to a movie or two.  ❜

        yes. a distraction. this might just spare him for the night. he puts on that innocent face that has most of america thinking he’s a saint. hell– most of the globe, maybe. television & media went a long ways.   ❛  or we could always  arm wrestle.  ❜ which might prove bad to tanya, but steve would be just fine. unless she broke out the suit; then things might be just a little more challenging. 

“ fine .   whatever   you   say ,   steve .   but   i’m   holding   you   to   that ,   you   know .   one   of   these   days ,   i’ll   get   you   prettied   up   real   nice .   that   is   a   promise . ”   and   even   though   her   tone   is   playful ,   there   is   a   hint   of   seriousness   hidden   among   it   all .   oh   yes ,   steve   was   right   to   be   afraid   for   his   face ,   and   the   amount   of   space   she   currently   has   on   her   cellphone   for   photographs .   she   was   serious   about   the   whole   thing .   

she   finishes   putting   the   rest   of   the   board   game   back   into   it’s   box ,   setting   it   down   to   the   side   once   done .   she   would   put   that   away   later .   turning   back   to   steve ,   tanya   wrinkles   her   nose   slightly .   she   didn’t   quite   fancy   an   arm   wrestle .   risky   overall ,   with   a   high   chance   of   her   losing   and   steve   reclaiming   some   of   that   lost   glory   from   candyland .   she   kinda   wants   to   go   to   bed   with   her   winning   streak   intact   tonight .

“ it   depends …   what   kind   of   ‘ movie ’   do   you   have   in   mind ?? ”   and   really ,   she   could   - should -   make   some   joke   about   ‘ netflix   and   chill ’   but   decides   against   it .   she   doesn’t   know   if   he   would   get   that   reference .   and   if   he   doesn’t ??   she   really   wouldn’t   want   to   go   into   explaining   it .
